The Message

Northern Ontario highways connect our communities, families, and livelihoods. But for decades, many of these roads—especially Highway 11 and Highway 17—have remained narrow two-lane highways carrying heavy transport traffic and long-distance travelers every day. Anyone who has spent time driving these roads knows how dangerous they can be.

I grew up in Northwestern Ontario, where long drives between towns are just part of life. Whether it’s heading to work, visiting family, hauling goods, or making the trip across the region, these highways are something we all rely on. Growing up here means understanding how important these roads are—and how risky they can be when traffic, transport trucks, and limited passing lanes are all sharing the same space.

The goal behind this project is simple: raise awareness about the need for safer highways across Northern Ontario. Twinning major routes like Highway 11 and Highway 17 would reduce head-on collisions, improve traffic flow, and make travel safer for the thousands of people who depend on these roads every day.
